I first saw the tartan when I was reading an article by the Ethical Fashion Forum about their collaborative case study with Liberation Kilt Company (LKC), called the Rebel Tartan Project. I was investigating working with students on a design project at Lulu & Robbie for our Spring range. The concept of retail projects which benefited initiatives such as the UN voluntary trust funds for victims of human trafficking really appealed to me.
It goes without saying that we are compassionate people who care about human welfare too. Adopting the Blueheart tartan is a simple yet empowering way to take a stand against modern day slavery. Designed by Liberation Kilt Co, who design tartans promoting worthy social causes, Blueheart symbolises the collective heartbeat of victims of human trafficking. Lulu & Robbie is donating 20% of profits from the Blueheart range to the United Nations Voluntary Trust Fund for Victims of Trafficking in Persons, which supports charities around the world fighting modern-day slavery.
We’re pleased to announce that we’re featuring the Blueheart tartan as part of our first range. The Blueheart tartan is woven in Scotland by Bute Fabrics Ltd, a recipient of the Queen’s Award for Enterprise, the UK’s highest accolade for business success.“Blueheart is woven from 100% Pure New Wool”, adds Prof Giles Jackson, co-founder of Liberation Kilt Co,“--sustainably sourced and processed to ISO 14001 environmental standards". They are lined with Brisbane Moss corduroy, making them a very British garment.
